Sourcing

Sourcing is a huge focus at EAT TEN. Our industry is responsible for around 26% of global greenhouse gas emissions, of which our supply chains account for 18%.

We are putting in the work towards our long-term and ongoing goals of reducing our carbon footprint, minimising the impact that our supply chain has on the environment and being completely transparent about where all of our ingredients come from.

Environmental impact

Different foods have different carbon footprints and environmental impacts.

It is our responsibility to make sure EAT TEN is doing everything it can to minimise our impact on the environment. We are filling our menus with Future 50 Foods to be kinder to the planet, and banishing any ingredients linked to deforestation.

Future 50 Foods have been put together by Knorr Professional and World Wildlife Fund UK, which identifies 50 plant-based, future-facing foods that we should embrace for our health and the health of the planet. Consisting of vegetables, grains, cereals, seeds, nuts and legumes, the report has been developed to inspire greater variety in what we cook and eat.

It is an effort to ensure there are enough resources for us all, and for future generations, we need to change the ways we look at, and produce food.

Our food commitments

Between 50% and 70% of the environmental impact of EAT TEN is in the food itself, so we take our responsibility for sourcing low-carbon ingredients and products very seriously with a British-first sourcing policy.

Some of the measures we are taking at EAT TEN to minimise our food and drink environmental impact:

  • 100% of our milk is sourced in the UK and is either organic or British Red Tractor certified

  • Over 90% of our fresh produce is sourced locally in the UK

  • All of our meat, dairy and poultry is British Red Tractor and RSPCA certified

  • We only use fish which is Marine Conservation Society certified

  • All of our berries are UK grown or frozen if out of season

  • We adhere to responsible soy certification standards as laid out by Round Table for Responsible Soy (RTRS)

  • We audit all of our suppliers regularly to ensure we only use the highest quality produce

  • Our drinks are sourced from organic, carbon-neutral and local suppliers wherever possible

  • We are committed to serving only Arabica coffee from farmers who are paid a fairer wage

Our packaging

We are currently working on a range of custom-made EAT TEN packaging which will be completely fibre-based and composed of materials such as wood, paper, card, cellulose and seagrass. This will eliminate the need for single-use plastics.

In the meantime, until we reach that point, each EAT TEN product will have the % recycled content clearly displayed on the packaging.

We are aiming for a minimum of 50% on all of our food and drink offerings. Our packaging is also made predominantly with mono materials that are easily and widely recycled.
